Te 23 ki te 29 o Mahuru | 23 - 29 September is Mental Health Awareness Week
MHAW has been run annually by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand since 1993.
As the Mental Health Foundation explains, "Good wellbeing doesn’t happen by accident, it needs nurturing and protecting" — and this includes our mental health. MHAW is a gentle reminder to nurture and protect our mental health and to tautoko/support our friends and whānau with their mental health as well.
"Community is... what we create together."
This is the theme for MHAW 2024. The Mental Health Foundation says, "Community looks different for everyone — that's the beauty of it. It’s about connecting with others to create something together. This MHAW, we’re encouraging the people of Aotearoa to define, build, and celebrate their communities. Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi. With your food basket and mine, the people will flourish."
How can I work on protecting and nurturing my mental health this MHAW?
The Mental Health Foundation provides TONS of resources to help you tautoko/support yourself and your friends and whānau.
Check out their MHAW website as well as their main website for tips, ideas, stories, events, and more.
