What is Movember?
Movember is a movement as well as "the leading charity changing the face of men's health". Established in 2003, Movember has funded over 1,250 men's health projects around the world and provides support, resources, health information, personal stories, campaigns, and motivation to help improve men's health*.
Every November, Movember holds fundraisers in support of men's health and the prevention of deaths by suicide, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
A moustache is the symbol of Movember.
*While the focus of Movember is primarily on cis men, some of the information is important and relevant to other people as well
For example, if you are irawhiti or trans and AMAB, and if you have a prostate and/or testicles, then you can also be at risk of prostate or testicular cancer. While the Movember website may not be a comfortable space for you (it's very men-focused!), this time of year can still be a good reminder to check in with yourself and your doctor.
And if you are irawhiti or trans and AFAB, while some of the physical health information (such as on prostate and testicular cancer) may not be relevant to you, other information about maintaining your physical and mental wellbeing and looking out for your mates is still important.
