The meaning of Puāwaitanga
The services Puāwaitanga offer
Free and confidential counselling sessions with registered professionals
Appointments can be either over the phone or video-based (Puāwaitanga do not offer in-person appointments)
Sessions available between 9AM-9PM, 7 days a week
Use your session/s to discuss any issues, which may range from low mood to anxiety, grief to addiction, or relationship issues to low self-esteem
Who is eligible for Puāwaitanga's services?
You can access free counselling with Puāwaitanga if you are aged over 18 years and you meet any of the below criteria:
Receive a benefit, pension, or extra help payment through Work & Income
Hold a Community Services Card
Live in emergency or public housing
Are a student of University of Auckland, AUT, Open Polytechnic, Otago Polytechnic, or University of Otago
Are referred from Te Mahi Ako, Piki, Health Hawke's Bay, Waitaha Canterbury, South Canterbury, or THINK Haurora
If you are in a crisis:
If it's a life-threatening emergency, please call 111 or go to your nearest hospital Emergency Department.
If it's a mental health emergency but not life-threatening, please call your local mental health crisis team: 0800 745 477 for Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley, 0508 432 432 for Wairarapa.
