Caring for our community: a glimpse into The Terrace Medical Centre’s history

The Terrace Medical Centre has been providing healthcare services to residents of Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington and beyond for over 50 years.

First opening its doors in 1968 at Shell House on The Terrace, the practice moved to our current location at 50 The Terrace in 1988 and has been providing essential care to our community from here ever since.

In 2013 we expanded and remodeled the practice to enhance our capabilities and offer a wider range of services, and in 2019 we remodeled again to expand our services even further.

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Here at The Terrace Medical Centre we acknowledge Māori as tāngata whenua and are committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our practice sits upon the land of Kumutoto, a kāinga associated with a number of iwi including Ngāti Mutunga, Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Tama, and Ngāti Te Whiti. Still flowing underground nearby is the Kumutoto Stream, which once met the sea close to where Woodward Street now meets Lambton Quay.

We have a dedicated Kaiāwhina Mana Taurite/Equity Champion to lead our work towards achieving health equity and we welcome any feedback on improving our services.
